TrueLoupe Support
Need help with TrueLoupe? Email us at wtsgems@gmail.com and we’ll reply within 2 business days. It helps to include your iPhone model, iOS version and, for a purchase question, the date of the purchase.
How TrueLoupe works
TrueLoupe guides you through photographing and measuring a piece of jewelry, then estimates its market value against real similar pieces sold and for sale. Every comparable listing it shows links to the real listing, so you can check the evidence yourself.
The result is an unofficial estimate, not a certified appraisal. For insurance, legal or high-value decisions, have the piece examined in person by a qualified appraiser.
Who makes TrueLoupe
TrueLoupe is designed at WTSgems by a silversmith and someone trained in AI engineering. The silversmith brings what matters at the workbench: how metal is weighed, how stones are measured, what hallmarks mean and what makes a piece sell. The engineer turns that know-how into a system that checks its own work, so every estimate rests on real measurements and real listings rather than a guess.
Getting the most accurate estimate
TrueLoupe measures instead of guessing from one photo. The more of these you use, the better the estimate:
- 18% gray card (essential): place it in the photo and tap it when asked. TrueLoupe uses it to correct the color of the whole photo, so stones and metal are judged in true color.
- Digital calipers (essential): measure the stone’s length, width and depth in millimeters. TrueLoupe calculates the stone’s weight from these.
- mm grid or cm scale card: set the piece in the corner of the photo so its size can be read. You can print a grid free from the app’s “What you’ll need” screen.
- Pocket scale, 0.01 g (recommended): weigh the piece so the metal content is based on real grams.
Photo tips: use soft daylight or even indoor light, avoid strong shadows and reflections, fill the frame with the piece, and keep the gray card flat and fully in view. Photograph any stamps or hallmarks (such as 925, 14K or an assay office mark) clearly, because they change the estimate’s confidence.
No tools? You can tap “Continue without” and still get an estimate; it will just be less precise.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
Your first 2 estimates are free. After that, each estimate uses one credit. Credits come in packs of 5, 15 or 40, bought in the app. There is no subscription, and credits never expire.
Why do I need to sign in?
Sign in with Apple keeps your free trial and purchased credits attached to you, so they are safe if you change or reinstall your phone. You can choose to hide your email from us when you sign in.
An estimate failed. Did I lose a credit?
No. If an estimate doesn’t complete, the credit (or free trial estimate) is given back automatically. Check your connection and try again.
I bought credits but they don’t show
Credits are added once our server confirms the purchase with Apple, which usually takes a few seconds. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them, then open Account > Buy credits. If they still don’t appear, email us with the purchase date and we’ll add them.
I got a new phone. Where are my credits?
Credits are stored with your account, not on the phone. Install TrueLoupe, sign in with the same Apple ID, and your balance will be there. Valuations you saved are stored only on your old phone.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the TrueLoupe purchase and choose “Request a refund”.
The estimate seems too high or too low
Open the result’s details to see the metal, stone and comparable listings it was built from, and its confidence score. Low confidence usually means missing measurements, no gray card, an unclear stamp, or few similar pieces for sale. Adding the tools and clearer photos of the stamps usually helps. Remember that markets vary and the result is an estimate, not an appraisal.
Does the price I paid affect the estimate?
No. The price check is entered only after the estimate is finished, stays on your phone, and is never used in the valuation.
Which currency are results shown in?
Your phone’s region settings choose the market and currency. TrueLoupe searches marketplaces in your country first and converts any foreign listings using official exchange rates.
What happens to my photos?
They are sent securely for analysis and are not stored by TrueLoupe after your estimate. Your saved valuations stay on your phone. See our privacy policy for details.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Account and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and any unused credits. It can’t be undone.
